Performance Auto Group Partakes in 2016 Big Bike Ride Niagara, Raises over $2,200

Performance Auto Group has pushed pedal to the metal in the 2016 Heart & Stroke Foundation Big Bike Ride Niagara, and has raised over $2,200 to help fund vital medical research.

The ride was held on August 24, 2016 in St. Catharines, and saw employees don red shirts and cycle the thirty-seat, 2,000 lbs bike through 2 km of city streets to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke. The bike received fantastic response from everyone at the road, with people honking car horns and cheering the team throughout the route. The team had plenty of fun as well, and some even dressed up as Spiderman, Deadpool, deadmau5, and a giant rabbit to attract people's attention.

The rabbit costume was donned by Lindsay Slessor, Graphic Artist at Performance Auto Group, who wore the suit after meeting her personal donation goal of $300. "This is the second year in a row that I have cycled the big bike in my rabbit costume. My fundraising pitch was that I will sweat it out in the costume if I meet or exceed my goal. Thanks to several generous donors, 'Make The Rabbit Ride' was successful once again," said Lindsay.

The total amount raised this year includes $1,240 that was sourced through raffle ticket sales at the Performance Auto Group Golf Classic. The tournament was held on August 21 at the Peninsula Lakes Golf Club in Fenwick, Ontario, and saw participation from numerous employees from the Niagara region.

Lindsay said she was very proud to have participated in the fundraising effort. "We all had a great time riding the big bike, and created much-needed public awareness about heart disease and stroke. The conditions sadly prove fatal for over 70,000 Canadians annually, so it is crucial to help raise funds for research," said Lindsay.

This is the fifth time that Performance Auto Group has participated in Niagara's Big Bike Ride. "Our participation in this event shows people that we care about the same things that they do. Performance is committed to making a positive difference in the community, and hopes to inspire others to do the same," said Lindsay.

Performance Auto Group's participation in the Heart & Stroke Foundation Big Bike Ride is a part of the group's Drive Change initiative, which ensures that our organization gives back visibly to the communities which we serve.
